Ben Clanchy is a Foreign Legal Consultant with Makarim & Taira S. His areas of focus are commercial matters, corporate transactions, and competition law in Indonesia.
He has advised leading domestic and international firms in a variety of sectors and projects ranging from corporate and commercial transactions such as M&A to more specialized topics including competition law, land acquisition, forestry, energy and oil storage infrastructure and hotel projects. He recently assisted Pertamina Geothermal with the financial close of the $1.17bn Sarulla energy project.
Formerly in the trade and economics section of the Australian Embassy in Indonesia, he has also held a number of positions in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra, most recently as Legal Counsel to the Department's Free Trade Agreement Taskforce prior to joining us. His multinational and trade government background is an asset in understanding the background and history of many regulatory issues. He took a year of his law degree at the University of Texas at Austin and speaks English, Indonesian and Italian.
