AWARDS ON BANTEN IPP PROJECT

Makarim & Taira S. has been awarded ‘Deal of the Year Project Finance - Banten IPP Project’ by IFLR Asia Awards, ‘Asian-Mena Counsel’s Deals of the Year 2013’ by Asian-Mena Counsel and ‘Asia Pacific Power Deal of the Year’ by Project Finance International 2013 Awards for its involvement in the Banten IPP Project.

Makarim & Taira S. acted as the Indonesian legal counsel of Lestari Listrik Pte. Ltd. (a company in the Genting group of companies) in relation to the establishment, financing and construction of the 1x660 MW Banten Coal-Fired Power Plant in West Java, Indonesia. The deal is the first IPP in Indonesia to be financed in the international debt markets without the provision of any government support and the financial close was also achieved very quickly compared to other similar projects. The key team members were Benny Bernarto, Kurniawan Tanzil and Guy Des Rossiers.
