Makarim & Taira S. in Collaboration with POTADS

People with Down syndrome have a very important message for the world: "𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻." This is the heart of an international awareness campaign launched ahead of World Down Syndrome Day in March 2024. The campaign seeks to challenge the negative biases that people with Down syndrome often face in their daily lives.

In line with this empowering message, Makarim & Taira S. has reintroduced its internship program for individuals with Down syndrome. This initiative, previously conducted several times before the pandemic, was relaunched this year in collaboration with Yayasan POTADS (Persatuan Orang Tua Anak Down Syndrome or Parents of Children with Down Syndrome Association). Working alongside dedicated parents from POTADS, we successfully recruited three remarkable interns to join our firm.

Throughout May 2024, we had the honor of working with these three incredible young individuals with Down syndrome. Their presence brought immense joy, enthusiasm and a unique perspectives to our team. This experience was not only a fantastic learning opportunity for all involved, but it also highlighted the valuable contributions that people with Down syndrome can make in a professional setting.

We extend our deepest gratitude to POTADS for their collaboration and to everyone at Makarim & Taira S. who supported and embraced this initiative. This experience serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion and diversity in the workplace.

Together, we have not only assumed that they can, but we have also proved that they can.
