Our Partner, Vincent Ariesta Lie, had the honor of serving as a panelist at the National Mining and Finance Forum

On Wednesday, 8 March 2023, one of our partners, Vincent Ariesta Lie, had the honor of serving as a panelist at the National Mining and Finance Forum organized by PT Marsh Indonesia and Majalah Tambang, alongside former energy and mineral resources minister Ignasius Jonan (keynote speaker) and other distinguished panelists from Bank Indonesia, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, PT Freeport Indonesia, Marsh McLennan, Oliver Wyman, PT Marsh Indonesia, and PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama.
 
This year’s forum was themed ‘Strengthening the Collaboration between Financial Sector and Mining Industry’, which focused on key issues related to the mining industry outlook, financial sector support for the sustainability of mining, the insurance market outlook for smelter projects, and risk management in downstream mining investment.
 
During the forum, Vincent shared informative insights on Indonesia’s nickel mining industry, including the permits and licenses required for nickel mining, processing and refining activities. He also discussed the evolving regulatory regime of the nickel business sector, export restrictions, challenges from a legal perspective, and health and safety issues. Notably, he shed light on the Indonesia v. EU case at the World Trade Organization on Indonesia’s nickel export ban and domestic processing requirements.
 
The forum, held at Hotel Dharmawangsa in South Jakarta, was attended by hundreds of participants from various backgrounds. In preparing for the event, Vincent was ably assisted by Yohanes Kevin (Senior Associate), Flaviana Meydi H. (Associate), and Dang Perkasa Alam Panjaitan (Associate).
