WLG Summit 2024 Recap

Since 2012, Makarim & Taira S. has been a proud member of the World Law Group (WLG), a global network of leading independent law firms which aims to provide seamless legal solutions across many jurisdictions.

As the only Indonesian law firm in the network, it is our goal to promote Indonesia and its extensive investment and business opportunities to our fellow corporate law firms in the network. We believe that corporate law firms play a major role in facilitating foreign investment initiatives in this country.

This year, for the very first time, the WLG summit was held in Indonesia. We chose Bali because we believed that it would give our delegates and guests a chance to catch a glimpse of Indonesia's wonders while discussing the latest trends and challenges as well as making valuable connections with other delegates.

Over 100 corporate lawyers from almost 40 countries attended the summit and not only participated in the business programs, but also immersed themselves in a wealth of Balinese cultural heritage, the natural beauty of Bali, its historical sites, and the warmth of its people.

Throughout the event, held from May 28th to June 1st, delegates and guests enjoyed a variety of cultural and recreational activities, including tours of Bali’s lush rice field terraces, villages and ancient temples as well as Bali's wild safari. The Balinese cooking class and traditional body scrub workshops were particularly popular, allowing participants to delve deep into local traditions. The ceramics class in Jenggala also provided attendees a hands-on opportunity to explore the art of ceramic making.

Evening events such as the Welcome Cocktail & Sunset Dinner and the Balinese Cultural Dinner offered further opportunities for networking in a relaxed and enchanting setting. The stunning backdrop of Bali's coastline added to the charm, making each moment memorable. The closing dinner party in Taman Bhagawan was a perfect end to this remarkable event.

We would like to thank our guest speaker, Mr. Nadiem Makarim, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, for taking the time to join us in Bali and share his valuable insights and views of the future of Indonesia. A thank you also to Mr. Alexander Rusli, the co-founder and Chairman of Digiasia Bios, for sharing his valuable personal and professional journey and success with our delegates and guests.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to WLG for their trust and confidence in us, making this summit a truly unforgettable experience.

Last but not least, we send our greatest appreciation to each and everyone of our delegates and guests, some of whom travelled all the way across the globe to be here with us, for their participation, support and dedication throughout the summit. We hope that they took away with them lasting wonderful memories of Indonesia and we look forward to mutually beneficial collaborations with them for many years to come.
