Makarim & Taira S. partnering with World Law Group in a global Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, WLG | impact
One of the values that Makarim & Taira S. (“M&T”) holds dearly is inclusivity – a recognition that everyone brings with them unique potentials and when given a chance, can contribute for the good of society.
In the past years, the firm has focused its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program on the community of young people with Down’s Syndrome and has been collaborating with Ikatan Syndroma Down Indonesia (ISDI – the Indonesian Down’s Syndrome Association) through various initiatives.
One of the programs that was conducted successfully before the pandemic was an internship program, in which the firm hired young people with Down’s Syndrome to work at the firm. Together, we have proven that when provided with opportunities, these special people can contribute and enrich the firm’s work environment.
Earlier this year, to celebrate World Down’s Syndrome Day 2021, Makarim & Taira S. held the ‘M&T Painting Competition for young people with Down’s Syndrome’ in Indonesia. This was aimed at providing them with opportunities to explore their potential and be acknowledged by others. The best 13 paintings were rewarded by M&T and are now on display in M&T’s 2022 Calendar.
The firm’s CSR collaboration with the Down’s Syndrome community has one main goal – to appreciate and empower young people with Down’s Syndrome.
Last September, World Law Group (WLG) launched WLG | Impact, a network-wide Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, in which all member firms, including Makarim & Taira S., would complete a CSR project under the banner of World Law Group. This year, the program focuses on ESG (Environmental Social Governance).
Therefore, M&T proudly presented: A Fruitful Impact: Growing Stronger Together, a CSR program in which the firm initiates an environmentally friendly activity, which is planting and growing fruit together. The firm sent a fruit plant to its employees’ and ISDI members’ homes for them to grow. We also invited ISDI students to join this program because they have been an important part of the firm over the years.
The program kicked off on the 17th of August 2021, as part of the celebration of the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. In line with the national theme for Indonesian Independence Day this year, A Strong Indonesia, A Growing Indonesia, we believe that the act of caring for the environment represents love for our country. The recipients of the fruit plants must take a photograph of themselves with the plant on the first day they received the plant and on October the 2nd, 2021, more than a month later. The firm rewarded employees and ISDI students whose plants have grown the best. Congratulations to the winners!
Planting and growing a plant is a beautiful and meaningful process, as it teaches us patience, perseverance, caring and hope. The firm is thankful that this initiative has been embraced fully by all the members of the Firm and ISDI. May it inspire us to be more responsible citizens of the world and to do our part for the good of the environment and may we enjoy the fruitful impact for many years to come.
